Bangalore : A Wonderful City

There are a lot of reason why Bangalore is the preferred home of not just people from various parts of India and expats from other countries, but also of the largest IT companies in the world. The mild weather conditions throughout the year, easy availability of jobs and (especially highly skilled) labor and the overall cosmopolitan natural history of the city appeal to working citizens, retired personnel and entrepreneurs alike.

The modern city of Bangalore was founded by a ruler of the great Vijayanagara empire, the visionary Kempegowda I, in the 16th century. After the fall of the Vijayanagara empire, Bangalore’s rule changed hands many period and eventually it became the capital of the Mysore state and then of Karnataka. The city became home to a large population of Tamils even before Indian independence due to the British practice of recruiting employees from the Madras Presidency for the Cantonment. With the industrialization that followed independence, immigrants from other parts of the country started flowing in. In 1985 Texas Instruments became the first major IT company to set up base in Bangalore. TI was sooner or later followed by others like IBM and Microsoft and it wasn’t long before Bangalore came to be known as the second Silicon Valley. The name of the city became a synonym for outsourcing. As a result Bangalore today is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Asia, where people from not jut all over India but also starting many different parts of the world live together.

The varied backdrop of the city’s population has resulted in a rich cultural scene. It’s inspiring that despite the overwhelming influence of other cultures the region’s own Kannada Literature and Theater scene is thriving. Rangashankara and Chowdiah Memorial Hall are some of the places where there’s forever something happening for the theater buffs and culture enthusiasts. National Gallery of Modern Arts and Venkatappa Art Gallery among many other such places hold exhibitions and other events related to art and culture. There are annual cultural festival like the Bengaluru Habba which are wonderful occasions for artistes to do as well as for the masses to get a taste of various kinds of performance arts. Kannadigas (people who speak the dominant language of Karnataka) are very proud of their own culture and, at the same time, very accommodating of the linguistic and cultural differences of others who have made the city their home.

Bangalore has a large subsequent of Western pop music. Musical icons such as Iron Maiden and Akon have performed in the city recently, and the legendary rock band Metallica is scheduled to perform in the city in October. Bangalore boasts of a colorful nightlife with a high density of pubs and music lounges. Despite the 11.30 p.m. deadline imposed by the authorities, these places provide a immense way to chill out and relax for the hard operational youngsters and music lovers of the city.

Bangalore has some of the finest university and colleges, which attract student from all over india and foreign countries who blend into the multicultural mosaic of the city. In addition, Bangalore is home to prestigious research institutions like Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL). The city also boasts of premier institutions of higher studies like IIT, IIM and the National Institute of Design (NID). Bangalore has a number of International schools catering to the expat population and to those who want their kids to receive exposure to an worldwide curriculum and grow up to face challenges in a globalized world.

For a long time the most people, who could afford to, preferred to reside in a few posh areas of the city like Indiranagar, Koramangala or Jayanagar. But with massive infrastructure projects like the Metro and elevated highways that have been designed to resolve the persistent traffic problems of the city connecting peripheral regions to the city center and reducing the commuting time, there are many new locations where a prospective home buyer can look for houses. For a buyer with a budget, this maybe the best time to buy a house in a location which is newly connected to the city, e.g., by the Metro. There are many builders that are offering flats/appartments with many luxuries for sale at attractive rates in such areas.

anyone who has lived in bangalore would know precisely why it’s nickname the backyard city. Despite industrialization and urbanization, a good piece of the city is still covered by thick greenery. A large number of the roads are lined with big trees on either side providing shade to the traffic and the pedestrians with the consequence that it’s nice and comfortable to be outside on the roads even in the middle of a hot summerday. The city is practically littered with parks of different sizes and shapes. These parks with good-looking lawns and tall foliage can be found all over the city. People go there for their morning exercises or evening walks or just to relax. It’s not uncommon to see old men doing Baba Ramdev’s Pranayama in the mornings or young couples holding hand in the evenings. There are a many lakes throughout the city, the most famous probably being the landmark Ulsoor lake close to the center of the city. These are just a number of of the reasons why Bangalore seems to attract people from elsewhere magnetically and the ones that live here find it very hard to leave.
